Are LED Strip Lights Expensive?

LED strip lights are a fantastic way to illuminate a space in a unique and interesting way.

Some people use strip lights to celebrate the holiday season. They wrap up the Christmas tree or outline the roof of the house with strips of lights.

Some people use strip lights to create a contemporary and hip atmosphere in their homes. They are placed along the cornice and traced over the vertical portions of a staircase or backlighting drawers.

LED strip lights are much more economical than traditional incandescent lamps. The length of the strip and the light density will directly impact the consumption. On average, a standard 5-meter strip costs less than $3 per year to run.

It has been proven that electricity consumed over the life of an incandescent bulb can cost 5-10 times its original price.

Incandescent bulbs are inefficient and have been banned in many countries, including Australia, China, Japan, India, and Japan.

This was done in an effort to decrease national energy consumption.

It is a positive step in the right direction.

LED Lighting: The Next Generation of Lights

Comparison of light bulbs prices

Even if your country has banned incandescent bulbs from being used, it is a good idea to make the switch to LED bulbs.

LED light bulbs (Light Emitting Diode or LED) have many benefits that make them an excellent choice.

They last longer (15,000 – 50,000 hours) than incandescent lamps (700 – 1,000 hours).

They could last well over 10 years if you used LED light bulbs for just 10 hours per day!

In contrast, an incandescent light bulb will last for only 100 days.

Compact fluorescent (CFL), bulbs are another option. It’s still a slight improvement on the incandescent bulbs. CFLs can last for only 10,000 hours, which is a huge improvement over incandescents. However, LED lights are longer and have more features.

Because they don’t use a filament, LED lights are more durable than traditional bulbs. LED lights are more resistant to bumps and drops than filament lights.

CFL bulbs contain mercury, which can be extremely poisonous. LED lights do not contain it. CFL bulbs that break can release mercury into the atmosphere, which could pose a threat to your health.

Although I meant general light bulbs, the bottom line is that LED strip lights have the same characteristics as those bulbs.

The main advantage of LED lights, including strips, is that they don’t get very hot. Your Christmas tree decorations won’t burn down in your home.

As you will see, LED bulbs are extremely efficient. This makes them great for energy savings and reducing your monthly bills.

Are LEDs consuming a lot of electricity?

You now understand how LED bulbs can help you save money and reduce the number of light bulbs you need to replace over time.

What about the energy costs of having one of these screws in your ceilings?

The KWh is the unit of electricity used by light bulbs. Over its 15,000-hour lifespan, an LED bulb consumes 127.5KWh. Incandescent bulbs that are used for 15,000 hours (theoretical purposes only; an incandescent lamp cannot last that long) will consume 900KWh.

The cost of electricity per megawatt-hour will vary depending on where you live. Average US electricity costs are 13 cents an hour.

With this rate, an LED bulb costs $16.58, and an incandescent bulb $117. This is almost seven times the energy cost!

What Power Can An LED Strip Light Use?

We have now established that LED bulbs use less electricity than older technologies.

What about strip lights?

Consider these two factors: power consumption and length.

The Watts per meter measure the consumption. This will be affected by several things.

The first is the light’s density. An LED strip light with a standard density will have 30 diodes per meter. High-density LED strips will have 60 to 120 diodes per meter. However, some lights can be much larger.

The size of the diodes is the next. These numbers are usually given as four-digit numbers that simply describe the diode’s width and height. Although the 3528 diodes are smaller than the 5050 light strips, they will still be brighter.

A high-density 3528 strip may draw more power than a 5050 strip of the same density. When you purchase your strips, make sure to look at the packaging or webpage for information about power consumption. Look out for W/m (watts/meter) and W/f (watts/foot).

You might also see lumens/meter, or lumens/foot. This is how bright the strip is. Good quality strips will deliver around 1500 lumens per meter.

Is Connected Strip Lighting More Energy-Efficient?

Simply put, yes. If you add more strip lights to an existing circuit, you’ll increase your electricity consumption. The power you consume is measured in watts per meter. Therefore, the longer you run, the more electricity you use.

It’s important to always use the same strips in a sequence – it’s dangerous to mix and match.
