Choosing a Painting Compressor

If you want to paint, you’ll need a good air compressor. There are several types to choose from, each with its own features and efficiency. Choose a lightweight, portable compressor that will make painting quick and easy. You can also choose a refrigerated one to eliminate moisture and help you work faster. Whether you’re a do-it-yourselfer or a professional, you’ll need an air compressor for your painting project.

A fridge compressor works great as a paint compressor, and many other similar models can be found on the internet. Using a compressor for painting is more than just a way to save money on a paint-by-hand tool – it also comes in handy for other tasks, like cleaning dirty car elements and aerographs. One such device is an old powder extinguisher. It can be a silent and efficient way to get started on your painting project.

If you need a large amount of air for spray painting, you can use a two-stage compressor. A two-stage compressor can deliver up to four times the amount of air needed for painting a car. A single-stage compressor delivers only one CFM per horsepower. You should choose a two-stage compressor with at least 5 Horse Power for your project. Buying one that’s too small for your project will make it difficult to get the job done correctly.

When choosing a compressor, air pressure is not as important as the CFM. While air pressure is crucial for atomization, CFM is what determines the overall flow rate. Generally, a 15-psi air compressor is sufficient for auto painting. But, if you’re doing a large-scale project like painting a car, you may want to choose a higher-psi model. And it’s also possible to use a cheaper compressor to paint small objects and parts of the car.

Another consideration when buying a painting compressor is its tank capacity. You want a unit that can supply enough paint for several car paint jobs. You can find models with tanks up to 50 gallons, but it will take you longer to fill them. Also, bigger tanks provide a greater air pressure and better CFM. You should also make sure that the air compressor is compatible with the type of spray gun you are using, and that it is able to give you a commendable PSI.
